Arts and Crafts House
Project Description

The client was looking to create a modern extension to their Arts & Crafts house to accommodate a new kitchen and to build a pool and Sauna with an ‘endless pool’ continuous swimming system. Tectonics Architects divided the contemporary kitchen and pool from the rest of the house so as not to detract from the original character. A zinc roof was installed on the new extensions to provide a long lasting and maintenance free surface. The pool area was externally insulated and clad using Brick Clad Ltd. Alco Systems aluminium contemporary windows from were fitted here.
As we gained the client’s trust, refurbishment works were extended to the entire house which had not been updated in over 30 years. We repaired, upgraded and renewed the whole property, fitted new bathrooms, electrical, heating and hot water systems. The old oil boiler was replaced with an A-rated Worcester Bosch boiler, and the flue was directed through the existing chimney stack to maintain the front and side elevations. A pressurised Pandora Cylinder from with an amazing output of 40L/min of hot water was installed and now supplies hot water to four bathrooms, the kitchen and a sauna. Buildmer High performance timber windows with invisible hinges were fitted to the existing house and we insulated the roof and all the ground floors. Durox Supablock 4 was used on all new build walls to improve thermal performance.
Belgian blue stone was fitted to the kitchen with underfloor heating. Zinc roof finishes were installed on the new pool extension. All windows were replaced. We painstakingly refurbished and restored the traditional dining room, antique fitted wardrobes and even an oak cladded altar.
We undertook all external works. The garden was levelled and now contains a new York stone terrace, a new garden path and a refreshed boundary fence. Feature items include schüco bi-folding doors and an ultra long swimming pool window measuring 5m x 1m.
