London’s low energy builder Bow Tie Construction Ltd designs & builds sustainable developments to the highest standard. We pride ourselves on delivering Passivhaus and net zero carbon construction with a typical project valuing between £500k – £5M.
We are currently looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our technical team and reporting directly to the Managing Director, playing an integral role as we transform and move into our next phase of scaling; from individual freehold projects to high-volume projects across the terraces and streets of the Big Smoke for our local authority clients.
This role will oversee all our projects and ensure that each one is costed and recorded accurately and correctly, both before and during construction. Our clients must receive a fair and accurate financial overview of their project, and our business must remain competitive, profitable and ultimately sustainable on all our projects.
In order to be successful in this role, you will need these strengths, skills, experience and knowledge sets to perform your role to the highest standard.
Primarily should have a passion for sustainability with a keen interest and knowledge in sustainable construction, both operational and embodied carbon.
Be an energised self-starter who is not afraid to take the lead, reach out to ask for help and follow up on outstanding issues so that the momentum of the project is not lost and delivery impacted.
Must be able to manage their time effectively, plan and organise their work, in order to keep on top of all the detail and information that this role will be responsible for and ultimately delivering projects within the required timeframe and to tight deadlines.
Possess strong analytical and mathematical skills, showing attention to the smallest of details.
Have excellent communication skills in order to connect and build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent knowledge of UK building materials and products.
Experience of delivering domestic construction projects within the United Kingdom.
Good knowledge of JCT contract administration.
It would be beneficial, but not essential to have:
Demonstrable experience of delivering any retrofit projects, Passivhaus, low operational carbon mechanical and electrical services.
Membership with a chartered body of Quantity Surveyors e.g. RICS, QSI.
What does a usual day look like at Bow Tie Construction in this role?
A usual day can be hard to describe because as part of the Bow Tie team, you’ll be working on a number of different ‘moving parts’ all at one time, so you you’ll need to be energised by variety and complexity from the beginning.
You could be pricing quotes on potential client work during the tendering stage, then moving on to full contract administration, cost control and valuations of an on-going project to briefing the Company Directors on all the progress and project financials of each contract.

We have a large goals and big ambitions, so it’s not easy. Our office is open plan, friendly and sociable. Everyone is approachable and we often brainstorm on challenges where every view is welcome.
But we warn you: Beware the temptation of the snack table!
We have a paperless office philosophy so everyone has a laptop and a dock with two large screens, to help support them in the function of their role. Using the tech and systems available is a big part of the role, so you’ll have to be confident in using these or at least have an open mind about learning to use them;
The office working hours are either 8am – 4.30 pm or 9am – 5.30pm; Monday to Friday working from our office in High Wycombe. There is potential to work from home 1-2 days per week once the role is established within the business, however, you will need to be based in the office primarily for the time being.
We offer the standard 20 days’ holiday + Bank Holidays available, along with NEST company pension scheme and on-site parking.
