Project Description

The clients of this project live in close proximity to our RIBA award-winning Max Fordham House. They followed the progress of the build and were impressed by how clean and tidy we kept the site and how we managed relationships with neighbours. We were the natural choice to build a replacement house for them on an equally challenging site on a one way mews with no outside storage space.

The existing house to be demolished is very cold in winter and hot in summer with a poor layout that does not make the most of the site. The clients approached Bow Tie Construction with planning permission for a house that had not been designed with thermal comfort and energy performance in mind. The construction cost was also outside their budget. We worked with KIN to improve and value-engineer the design, retaining many of the key features of the home while also designing out certain defects and reducing the build price. As part of this enhancement we installed the Tribus 4Walls system as an insulated airtight structure. It’s slim profile makes it ideal for London projects where land values are so high.

As is standard in all our new-build projects, we are designing the entire in house in 3D prior to going on site. This saves considerable time and reduces project risk as many key components and high value items can be sized from the model prior to breaking ground. The M&E design can be checked for any clashes.

  • “I did get the benefit of regular updates and involvement in the project so I could see the quality of the work.”

    – Raza Rizvi
  • “Not only was the work done to exactingly high standards but Rafael made many excellent suggestions which resulted in a build which made more sense.”

    – Raza R
  • “Rafael demonstrated a great knowledge in respect of building work and was able to draw plans and give advice regarding interior design.”

    – Carole R
  • “This house is cosy and comfortable but in a natural way. Our old house was of similar scale, area and build and if you wanted to heat a room you had to blast it and the air would then be very dry and that heat would quickly leak out.”

    – Toni M
  • “Passing our air test the first time is testament to how well Bow Tie do things”

    – Justin Bere
